One of our trustees, recently returned from a visit to Montgomery Heights. We invite you to read his reflections:

Another remarkable visit to Montgomery Heights.

On 8th July 2026 I set off from London for a short 5 day visit to Montgomery Heights. The last time I visited was 8 years ago.

What would it be like now? Would there be the same extraordinary peace? Would the children be as happy and respectful as I remembered? Would the experience of the Christian faith of leaders and children alike be as real and life-changing? Could it possibly be as impacting as it was 8 years ago?

I was not disappointed. I left with a profound sense of the depth of the love, character and the living presence of Jesus in the very heart of this unique and special community. It is at the same time a vibrant children’s home and a spiritual retreat.

The first thing that impacted me, however, was none of the above. Rather, coming from England in a heatwave, it was striking how cold it was – especially at night!

Despite the cold weather I was met with the usual very warm welcome. The confidence, warmth and welcome belied the many painful backgrounds these children have. Their journey (which continues) into wholeness bears testimony to the faithfulness of such loving staff and the reality of Jesus in their everyday lives.

It was a privilege to preach and teach from the Bible to such an engaged community. And then to follow up with a table tennis tournament with some of the children. Some budding and enthusiastic talent! It was also pleasing to celebrate England’s win over Norway in the World Cup quarter finals, with many of the young people who have a keen interest in the game.

I could not help be impacted by the care offered to such a diverse age range – from the 11 gorgeous babies to the young people preparing to go to university. It was evident that despite having had a painful start in life these young people are being prepared for meaningful and productive adult lives.

Meeting some who are now married and with children of their own was fantastic.

The physical site, some 35 acres, has continued to be developed and upgraded. Excellent kitchen and clinic refurbishment, increased solar capacity and newly built staff homes were evidence of ongoing investment in the fabric of the home. There is more to be done as properties are always in need of maintenance and as plans for future development evolve and I wholeheartedly commend this work to anyone who is moved to make a donation.

One highlight of the trip was joining the local management board in one of their regular meetings – a diverse group of talented people who are clearly committed to MHCCC. Some of the older members of the board have faithfully supported the Montgomery community for decades. This team not only continue to ‘be there’ to offer support but are being creative in seeking how they can implement ongoing development. I was so welcomed by the board members and immediately felt at home.

Having left Montgomery and returned to London I am left with two enduring thoughts – the priority that God places upon caring for the orphan and the power of faithful service.

At Montgomery I discovered a rich life – of lives changed, of the presence of the living Christ in the heart of a community, and of fun.

I also witnessed the power of faithful service – of a united leadership team, Lesley, Fiona, Danniel and Bridget, who day in, day out, are serving and loving these precious children and young people. They are giving their best and have created a remarkable culture where the reality of faith in Jesus Christ is truly life changing – individually and in community.

8 years has been too long. I plan to visit again next year.
